Synopsis[]

"Fight for the future of mankind. A great civilization once existed on this Earth. Possessing knowledge and scientific prowess far exceeding that of modern man, the relics of this ancient civilization remain hidden across this world even now. As high-speed communications networks cover the globe and the peering eyes of satellites are able to expose all secrets, the armies of great nations clash as they seek to uncover and research these artifacts, which possess an unfathomable “power.” A member of this ancient civilization carved a message into a plate: “Protect our relics from evil-doers.” Taking this message to heart, one organization aims to seal away this ancient civilization for good. The elite secret agents of this organization are known as... Spriggans." ― Official Netflix description.

An original net animation (ONA) series adaptation was announced on March 11, 2019.[1] The series was also revealed to be animated by David Production.[2] Originally set for a release on Netflix in 2021, but it was delayed for a 2022 premiere on Netflix.[3][4] In March 2022, Netflix revealed that the series was set to premiere on June 18,2022 and would consist of six episodes.[5] The opening theme song is "Seeking the Truth feat. YAHZARAH", while the ending theme song is "Ancient Creations feat. Shing02", both by Taisei Iwasaki.[6]

The announcement was made by Netflix Japan's Twitter account in the April 2019 issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Shōnen Sunday (Gessan) magazine.[7][8] The series is directed by Hiroshi Kobayashi, with Hiroshi Seko handling series' composition, Shūhei Handa designing the characters, and Taisei Iwasaki composing the music, and Shōhei Miyake serves as the assistant director.[9] The adaptation is part of a partnership with Netflix to have the anime streamed worldwide.[10]

The opening theme is "Seeking the Truth feat. YAHZARAH", while the ending theme is "Ancient Creations feat. Shing02", both by Taisei Iwasaki.[11]The original soundtrack, composed by Iwasaki, was released by Milan Records on the same date of the series debut, on June 18, 2022.[12] guidebook for the ONA is set to be released on July 20, 2022. The guidebook features interviews with the cast, staff and authors Hiroshi Takashige and Ryoji Minagawa, detailed information of the series and various artworks.[13]
